Due to the combined efforts of our parents, grandparents, friends, community businesses, PTO, teachers, and administration, JBE finished the 2017-2018 school year incredibly strong and gained important traction heading into the 2018-2019 school year. Some of our accomplishments include:

  • Increased Enrollment -  JBE is the only Mt. Pleasant school withfour full-time Child Development classrooms, as well as a Preschool Intervention Class.  Historically, only about half the seats have been utilized by students zoned for JBE. The empty seats have then been used as overflow space for other schools' CD programs. Often, these students returned to their zoned school for kindergarten after completing JBE's CD program. One of our goals last year was to fill all four CD classes with students zoned for JBE. Remarkably, the 17-18 school year ended with the first-ever waiting list for the JBE Child Development program!! We now have a head start developing global leadership skills in these 80 students, all of whom are zoned to remain at JBE through 5th grade.
  • Academic Growth -  The percent of all JBE students who made at least a year’s growth on MAP in both reading and math increased last year!
  • Record Fundraising - Last year the fundraising arms JBE PTO andTom Lee Endowment (TLE) raised record amounts.  We look forward to continuing our success and raising the bar with our new Capital Campaign.
  • Greenhouse installation - After a fundraising mission that spanned multiple years, our Greenhouse was finally installed!  4th and 5th-grade students take horticulture class weekly. What a unique opportunity to expose kids to gardening and farming.
  • World Language - The JBE PTO and TLE fundraising arms have given JBE the ability to start a French language program this year at JBE!! CD students have French three times each week. K-3rd students have it twice a week and 4th and 5th-grade students have it once a week.
  • Technology - Thanks to the PTO and TLE, JBE students have a full-time technology teacher, and 1:1 technology in grades 2-5.

We are doing great things at JBE, but we still have a way to go. To gain momentum and truly become the best little school in the Lowcountry, we need your continued support. In order to fund the PTO operating budget and supplement the World Language, Reading Intervention, and Technology programs, the JBE PTO needs to raise 150k.  With 650 students that works out to an average donation of $230.

Did you know that last year, our students were able to raise $74,000 through the Boosterthon fundraiser, but only $37,000 of that money stayed at JBE? Boosterthon takes nearly a 50% commission on all funds raised. In order to maximize the amount of money we raise for our school, we have decided to change our approach to fundraising this year.   This year, in lieu of Boosterthon and the TLE Golf Tournament, the JBE PTO has decided to launch its inaugural Capital Campaign. The 2018-2019 Capital Campaign will allow 100% of your donation to go directly to the school. We understand that not all families can contribute at the same level, but we are aiming to get 100% participation at a level that each family is comfortable with.

We appreciate your support and want you to know how your donated dollars are spent, so we regularly post and invite you to take a look at our financial data on our website.
