My name is Natalie Fleskes and I am so excited to be your child’s teacher this year! This is my 17th year teaching Kindergarten and I cannot imagine myself doing anything else!
Growing up, I was part of a General Motors family. We moved all over the country with my father’s job-Detroit, Chicago, New York City, D.C., Minneapolis, and Memphis. I attended 7 different schools before leaving for college and therefore, was able to see firsthand what kind of teacher it takes to keep students engaged in their learning.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Education with double minors in English Literature and Theater from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan-GO GREEN! I earned my Masters degree in Education from Union University in Memphis, Tennessee. Soon after completing my graduate coursework, my older brother introduced me to my husband Brandon and we have been married for 10 years. We adopted our pride and joy-a furry, 4-legged baby named Houston, during our first year of marriage. He is a Puggle (Pug/Beagle mix) and is the most spoiled dog you will ever meet!
In 2009, we came to Charleston on vacation during my spring break and instantly fell in love with the people, history, and beaches! It was heartbreaking to leave our families behind, but we decided to take the plunge and move to South Carolina. I have been at James B. Edwards now for 6 years.
I am extremely fortunate to be a member of the faculty here at JBE. We have such an amazing group of teachers, students, and families! It turns out that the grass IS greener on the other side! I am looking forward to a fabulous year with all of you and cannot wait to get to know you better. Thank you for entrusting your precious children to me for the next 9 months! I am here for you whenever you need me.
